WIPO Convention
The Convention establishing the World Intellectual Property Organization (the WIPO Convention) Signed at Stockholm on July 14, 1967 and as amended on September 28, 1979 provides that membership in WIPO is open to the following:
- Any State that is a member of the Paris Union for the Protection of Industrial Property, or of the Berne Union for the Protection of Literary and Artistic Works
- Any State that is a member of the United Nations, or of any of the United Nations' Specialized Agencies, or of the International Atomic Energy Agency, or that is a party to the Statute of the International Court of Justice
- Any State that is invited by the WIPO General Assembly to become a member State of the Organization. Thus, only States can be members of WIPO

WIPO Members
To become a member of WIPO, a State must deposit an instrument of ratification or accession with the Director General of WIPO in Geneva. 181 States are members of the Organization. *
