Technical Regulations

The Technical Regulations page is an integral part of the Enquiry Point functions in the Standards and Metrology Directorate (BSMD). This page is the official source of knowledge which allows interested parties to be aware of developments in regulatory thinking before it has hardened into firm legislations and thus be in a position to participate with their views through the commenting process.

BSMD Enquiry Point is functioning in accordance with the provisions of Articles 10.1, 10.2 and 10.3 of the Agreement on TBT (Technical Barriers to Trade), where all WTO Members are required to establish a national enquiry point which is able to answer all reasonable enquiries from other members and interested parties as well as provide   information about any technical regulations, or conformity assessment procedures adopted or proposed within its territory by the government bodies.

Consequently BSMD Enquiry Point will provide a commenting period on the draft technical regulations and conformity assessment procedures and will consider the reasonable comments during the preparatory stages for drafting legislation. Technical Regulations can be viewed according to the title, category or status. A Technical Regulation that has a conformity assessment procedure to fulfill its requirements will have a link to browse such procedure. By selecting a specific regulation in its draft status, the visitor is provided with an opportunity   to comment and attach any documents relevant to the draft technical regulation or its conformity assessment procedure.
