Technical Regulations Implementation

Standards and Metrology Directorate has set the required procedures to implement the Technical Regulations in which the National Committee of Standards and Metrology approves. The National Committee has approved several Technical Regulations followed by Ministerial Orders and national standards issued in the Official Gazette and published in the BSMD website through its enquiry point.

The Directorate has laid down the required conformity assessment procedures to fulfill the technical regulations of each product under control.

The Directorate performs the required Conformity procedure(s) for the controlled goods entering the Kingdom through its two offices, one located at the port “Mina Salman” and the other at King Fahad Causeway. Similar goods entering the Kingdom through the Airport are directed to Mina Salman for the same purpose. The Directorate assures the local market compliance as well through both Inspection Campaigns and withdrawal of random samples of controlled goods to perform the required testing.

The products under control are as follows :

• Cars
• Tires ( Passenger cars and trucks )
• Car Batteries
• Asbestos
• Toys
• Cigarettes
• Weighing Scales , Weights , Measuring Tapes & Meters 
• Flash Tank Cisterns

All food products are under control but are inspected by Ministry of Health. Cars on the other hand are inspected by Ministry of Interior after having their certificates checked by Standards and Metrology Directorate.
