Since issuing its first report in February 1990, the Bahrain laboratory has gone from strength to strength. It has managed to build up an excellent reputation for its services in the Middle East and become familiar to gemologists and members of the public worldwide.
This degree of awareness from the public and other gemological laboratories, associations and individuals is just what was hoped for when the laboratory was established with the assistance of the oldest gemological laboratory in the world, the Gem Testing Laboratory of Great Britain (now known as Gem-A).
However, the primary reason for establishing the laboratory was to protect the natural pearl trade and the associated traditions of Bahrain and its reputation has grown whilst carrying out this service.
